Everyone has a different trick to keeping themselves safe in almost any situation. Here is one that Gregg Berliant, one of the owners of Gentle Home Services, Inc., found and wanted to share.
When driving in the rain, most drivers will turn their windshield wipers on the fastest setting, yet the visibility in the front windshield is still poor. The "trick" involved in this suggestion actually involves putting on your sunglasses!! The internet tip suggested that, when this is done, you will see the drops of rain falling but not the sheet of rain that normally obstructs your vision. Eliminating the blindness that occurs from passing cars is another possible benefit of using your sunglasses during a rain storm.
Another good tip that the article suggested was to NEVER drive in the rain with your cruise control on. Some people believe that they are being cautious by using the cruise control to maintain a safe and consistent speed during a rain storm. However, when your cruise control is on and the tires happen to lose contact with the surface of the road, your car will automatically accelerate in order to compensate for the lack of resistance. Interestingly enough, the article mentioned that some vehicles, like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE, will not allow you to set the cruise control when your windshield wipers are on.
