Keep Busy During COVID-19 Quarantines by Reading These Books Before Watching the Movie Adaptation

4/6/2020

PictureElderly Care Lake Forest IL - Keep Busy During COVID-19 Quarantines by Reading These Books Before Watching the Movie Adaptation
If your parents are getting tired of isolation, why not arrange to read some books, discuss them over video chats or phone calls, and watch the movie adaptations. Once you've watched the movies, reconnect and talk about the differences and similarities between the movies and books and share your opinions.

Here are some great books and movies to consider.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Charlotte Bronte's story of a young governess who's hired to care for young Adele, the daughter of the mysterious Mr. Rochester. Jane Eyre does her job well, but she begins to fall for her boss, which is alarming as she's certain he's hiding a secret about his first wife.

If you can find it, the mini-series starring Timothy Dalton is an excellent adaptation of this Gothic romance/mystery. The 2011 release starring Michael Fassbender and Amelia Clarkson is shorter but also a solid adaptation.

Lion by Saroo Brierly

At the age of five, Saroo's accompanied his brothers to the train station where they worked. Young Saroo fell asleep while his brothers were busy. Eventually, he ends up on a train where he thinks his brothers are working. When he wakes up, his brothers are not to be found. And, he's in Calcutta with no way to tell strangers his family's name or where he lived.

He'd end up with many other boys who had no home. Eventually, he was adopted by some Australians. It would take 25 years before he was able to find his way back to his mother for a reunion. The movie stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, and Nicole Kidman.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Harper Lee's story is told from the eyes of young Scout, a girl growing up in the South. Her father is an attorney handling the case of a young black man accused of raping a white woman. It's a time of racism, violence, and confusion for this eight-year-old. The story is her coming-of-age as she sees the times change attitudes and relationships within her town.

The movie starring Gregory Peck is excellent, though it doesn't always follow the book perfectly. It will give you and your parents a lot to talk about.

Elderly care aides are extremely helpful during self-distancing. You shouldn't be seeing your parents for their safety. It's hard, but you can bring the virus to them without knowing it if you're not extremely careful. With a professional caregiver stopping by, your parents have someone to pick up groceries, sterilize surfaces within the home, and make sure they have prescription refills.

An elderly care aide receives training in keeping older adults safe and following social distancing policies. They can do the laundry to kill germs, strip sheets, and make beds with clean linens. Call an agency to learn more.
